Special Tour of the Balboa Park Botanical Building + Panama 66 Jazz
Wednesday July 31, 5:30pm - 10:00pm
Networking and Tour | 5:30-7:30pm
Jazz and Social Hang | 7:30-10:00pm
Join MITCSD alumni, Ivy+ alumni and friends for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Balboa Park Botanical Building in its final stages of renovation. A Forever Balboa Park representative will guide us through Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the $28m renovation. Don't miss this chance to get a sneak peak of the project before it reopens to the public in early Fall.
The event "cost" is $10 per person, all of which goes to Forever Balboa Park as a tax-deductible donation. If desired, you can make an additional tax-deductible donation directly to Forever Balboa. On their donation form, under "Is this a Tribute Gift", please enter "MITCSD event". This additional donation is optional.
Following the tour, all who want to continue the fun will make the 5-minute walk to Panama 66 for food, drink and jazz. Stay as long as you like. Everyone will pay for their own food and drink. The jazz is hot and free!
About the Renovation: The Botanical Building was constructed in 1915 for the Panama–California World Exposition, along with many other recognizable structures in Balboa Park. The Botanical Building was one of the most photographed sites in San Diego before being closed in January 2022 for a much-needed restoration and beautification, managed by the City of San Diego and Forever Balboa Park, the city's non-profit partner that serves the needs of Balboa Park. After years of renovation, the Botanical Building is expected to reopen in Fall 2024 to the public.
